Hotels quality and standards in Ukraine vary widely through the country and differ from European
system of standards, in which one knows for sure what to expect from a 2 or 4-star hotel.

It gives a general idea of what can be expected from accommodation in Ukraine, what problems might
be encountered and some country relevant criteria for making a choice on accommodation.
No hotel in Ukraine has guaranteed on-line booking system. It is technically not supported by
hotels in Ukraine, no matter how good hotel is. Any assurances about immediate on-line hotel
booking system for Ukraine are, so to speak, "insincere".
Good Ukrainian hotels are not cheap. Though prices are high, hotel service sometimes
does not match Western standards. Prices and quality fluctuate even within the same star
category. This strange situation is caused by numerous room types the majority of hotels have.
You can see suites A, B, C, semi-suites with the same nominations, a couple of standard and
economy rooms as well - all in the same small hotel.
There are several reasons for such a vast categorization. One of them is that hotels
usually make renovation in part of the rooms they have, the rest stays untouched.
And since this process is repetitive and stretched in time, new and new room types appear.
On the top of it, rooms can differ in size and amenities - air-conditioning, newer furniture,
Hi-Fi stereo system, VCR, etc.
As a result, economy or non-renovated room at a 4-star hotel might be of a lower quality
and higher cost than suite or semi-suite at a 2-star hotel.
Hotel rates depend a lot on stars a hotel has. But it is not the only criteria,
which is evident from the above.

- location within the town/city/region in the country - the further from the
tourist/business centers the cheaper is accommodation
- hotel services themselves:
rooms quality and size - many hotel rooms have very small living space
hotel personnel
meals
communications
The latter is highly important in the current situation of Ukraine - self-sufficiency
of a hotel in sense of power, water and heating supplies cannot be undervalued.
There are still many hotels, especially in the remote areas, that have hot water supply
several hours a day upon a schedule or have no power supply for a day or so,
due to a major black-out in the area. Speaking about remote areas,
we would say that accommodation there might be a problem. Generous and hospitable
people will be encountered more often than acceptable hotels. Therefore, we would
recommend to stay at a closest city, which has some tourist infrastructure.

For ending, some details as to usual hotel services in Ukraine.
Most hotels have breakfasts included in the room cost. We have marked breakfasts inclusion
for every hotel we offer. Majority of hotels serve continental breakfasts or have a set of menus
for their variations. Having a continental breakfast, you can expect an omelet,
ham, cheese, bread, butter, jam and tea/coffee/juice in the morning. Some hotels, usually 4-5-star ones,
offer buffet breakfasts included in the room cost. Breakfast type is noted on each hotel page as well.
Few hotels charge own booking fees, which vary from USD2 to 50% of one night stay cost.
As a rule, this unpopular fee is used by hotels, which either are in municipal property,
or belong to one of a few hotels in the city and not much of a choice is left.
Sometimes, both factors affect for the same hotel.
For checking in the majority of hotels will require passports of the quests.
And finally, transfers to and from hotel are rarely included in the hotel cost.
