The Botkinskaya Trail leads from the Polyana Skazok Camping in Yalta to the Uchan-Su Waterfall. The trail is named after Sergey Botkin, a prominent Russian physician. Prizing the healing affect of the Crimean climate, Botkin has initiated creation of a several terrainkurs, the trails of health, in the Crimea.
By the order of Nicholas II in the Livadia district in 1901 there was laid an almost horizontal trail extending for about 7 kilometers in the mountains at 140 meters height above sea level; there were also constructed viewing platforms on the Pendikul Mountain. The Tsars’ Trail was walked by the three Russian Emperors: Alexander II, Alexander III, Nicholas II.
Evidently, the idea of the mountain hikes was so popular in the beginning of the last century that another trail has been created soon after. In 1902 the Yalta Department of the Crimean-Caucasian Mountaineering Club has laid the Botkinskaya Trail winding in the mountain forest between stately Crimean pine trees. This gently sloping trail has been promoting the mountaineering sports among the general public and is easy to make even for those who have no expertise in the mountain climbing at all. Extending for some 7 km, the trail goes via the Stavry-Kaya Cliff from which the magnificent views of Yalta unveil. If you arrive on time you would see the both waterfalls of Yauzlar powered with streaming water, plus the roaring Uchan-Su Waterfall in the ending point of your hike.
